On the mend!

Thankfully my tummy bug didn't stick around too long and after a few days off work, my first time off in four years, I started to feel like myself again. First coffee in a week, always a good measure!

Whilst taking things slowly at home, I turned my attention to our next trip away to Naples. I began to research the area and have a list of accommodation choices to show Jeff, when he has some time.

I also had to source a new microwave!!
So annoyingly over Christmas, our built in microwave/oven stopped working, the microwave bit, just as we attempted to steam the expensive M&S sticky toffee pudding (was telling me I wasn't supposed to have it!!) When we planned the kitchen originally, we went for a built in microwave because I think they look awful and take up so much space. Because it's now out of warranty and will cost £600 to replace!!!! I've had to buy a free standing microwave. This is the best I could find, to be in keeping with the rest of the kitchen, that doesn't shout "look at me, I'm a microwave and I'm taking up all the space!!" Still not sure it will stay there but I hate my counter top space being cluttered.

On Thursday I went out for the first time in a week and my first walk of the year!!
My last walk prior to this, was when Jeff and I walked on Boxing Day.
I agreed to go if we went somewhere to ease myself back in gently.

So we plumped for Ham Wall, just up the road.
A beautiful misty, murky, foggy meander through the Reed Beds together

We met the friendliest robins on our walk, all posing and wanting attention.

That evening I watched the starlings fly past the Tor on their way to roost, is so hard to capture but so captivating to watch. I stand at my bedroom window and they pass across the sky like silent shadows. I do want to go and see the murmurations again, over at Ham Wall where we were in the morning but it gets busy, it's cold and right when it's tea time!! So for now the view from my bedroom window will do.

On Friday I had to go and do a few things in Wells, pay in a cheque etc, so I went a little further on to Stockhill Woods, my favourite place. It was such a beautiful morning, incredible light.

I also found the rare Hair Ice - formed on rotting wood where there is a presence of a particular fungus. Thin stands of ice, resembling candy floss, form. I only know this because I'd seen it on TV last year. I think I first heard about it on 'Winter Watch', hadn't heard of it before and had never seen it, so quite a find. The conditions have to be perfect, hence it's quite rare.

On my way home, I HAD to stop to capture this view of Glastonbury Tor, emerging from the mists. Such a fabulous view x

So today is Saturday and tomorrow I go back to work for the first time in a week.
Will admit I'm not really looking forward to it, would happily not work at all, just go off for hours on end with my camera but we all know that's just a dream!! Am looking to see if I can possibly reduce my hours slightly though. I suffer with a foot condition - Plantar Fasciitis and am in real pain after being on my feet all day, so any help with that would be gratefully received.

I bought myself some daffodils to cheer myself up and spending time researching and planning our next adventure, gives me something to look forward to. I don't mind January, as long as I try to remain positive and it's hard to believe that we're already half way through the month!!

Here's hoping my return to work goes well xx

Poorly!

Not the way I imagined 2022 to start!!Anyone else suffered with a nasty tummy bug recently? I've been really poorly since dropping Sophie off on Wednesday. Severe stomach cramps, headache, lower back ache and the obvious trips to the loo!! Have zero energy, hoping things might settle a little today. Have done 2 negative lateral flow tests, so it's just a nasty bug! Feeling sorry for myself x

Have had dry toast and sipped on water.
Braved a small bowl of mashed root veg and so far it's stayed in me!

(view en route to Reading on Wednesday)

For the first time in 4 yrs, I've had to call in sick to work.
I hate letting people down but I have absolutely zero energy.

I'm not great at being ill.
I had so many things to get on with and I hate just lying around unable to do anything.
I've even missed out on my tulips which have gone over.

Here's hoping the recovery is quick!

Pinch and a pinch.....

.....hello January....

....and 2022!!

A NEW Year full of hope and new beginnings, experiences and adventures.

The neighbours put on a fantastic 'free' firework display

And we welcomed the New Year in at home, from the comfort of our sofa...

....munching on macarons....

and enjoying the odd beer!

My word for 2022 has remained the same for the past 3 years. After a fabulous few days away in Girona in 2019 we vowed to 'adventure' more, see more, travel more, experience more!! Obviously our plans were scuppered completely in 2020, the only adventures had to be close to home but last year we got to go to Corfu and Palma and we have a few trips already booked for 2022.
So it's still my word, my focus, my intention..... to adventure more!!

So it just leaves me to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

2021 didn't actually turn out too badly for us but like us all,
I'm hoping 2022 is a better year all round.

Here's to a happy and healthy year ahead xx

FAREWELL 2021

Farewell 2021!!

Despite everything it's been a good year!

From lockdown at the start of the year, the vaccine rolled out and life began to return to a more normal existence! Jeff and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Greece and a home grown display of sunflowers. Sophie got a job for after her final year and Sam got into his University of choice! Granny celebrated her 98th birthday in late July but sadly passed away a few weeks later.
My fig tree produced over 70 figs!! We where allowed back into theatre's and could enjoy live music again. Sophie and Sam regained their independence, at Reading and Cardiff universities in September. So although we sadly lost Granny, we also had much to celebrate.

Family

Jeff  met up with his side of the family just before Christmas. I was working but Sam and Sophie went over after Sam had finished work, to see their cousins. Usually an annual gathering but one that hadn't happened for the past two years.

Yesterday was all about family! My Mum and Dad haven't been up to our house since their Golden Wedding Anniversary in April 2019, partly due to Covid but also their commitment to looking after Granny, so it was lovely to all be together.

I set the table the night before....

....found all the treats I'd squirreled away!

I tried to make my life easy,
Greek flatbreads, tzatziki, chicken, med veg, roasted mini potatoes, olives ....

.... a help yourself lunch!

Mum and dad got here first. This was the first drive they'd done out of Cornwall in over two years. I was worried, Dad is now in his mid 70's but he took it slow and all was fine.

Me and my Mum.
Annoyingly I didn't take hardly any photo's, was too busy.

Pud was Pavlova!

I've not made one in years....

...and Jo made a chocolate log x

Of course we missed Granny x
We talked and joked and reminisced.
She lived a good life to the grand old age of 98, I miss her terribly but she'll always be here in spirit  and as we enter a new year, I will always look back on our times together fondly.
