Redundant

Redundant - NOUN When something becomes redundant, it is no longer needed!

Sometimes life can be a little unkind, especially to the people we love. We had some bad news a few weeks ago and on Friday things came to a head. The horrible word Redundancy - my poor, hard working husband is to be made redundant. What is so difficult for me, for us all, is that the whole process has been terribly unfair. At the end of the day, it's the children at the school, who will be without a fantastic Maths teacher in September. If I were a fee paying parent, I would want to know why that particular decision had been made!  It's not been a  professional decision and an awful lot of teachers at the school  agree with that and were shocked that he was one of those selected for redundancy.

We are a strong family unit.
We are all in good health and will do everything we can to get through this.
It is at times like this that your family means everything to you.

I have to believe that things happen for a reason and that some good will come of this horrible situation we've been put in. I'm not being purposely vague, I would love to go into more detail but .......
If I'm a little quiet or a little less jolly than normal, this is the reason for it. dots and spots will continue and support us, as best it can, whilst we find that next elusive job!

I'm very sorry to hear this - it seems crazy that a school would be making teachers redundant.

I hope that everything works out for the best for you all. Almost a year ago, I was made redundant when the site I worked at closed. I was really lucky to find a job to go to straight away - which actually turned out to be a better job. In the end, the redundancy was a good thing to happen for me - and I probably would never have made that jump of leaving - I needed to be pushed!

It is great that you have a strong family unit, and just remember that sometimes things seem bad but can end up resulting in good things. I hope that is the case here for you.

Jeff is absolutely fantastic... their loss and by the sounds of it certainly not his loss!
Looking forward to hearing his next fabulous adventure in the teaching world... lucky lucky children who'll soon be benefitting from his love, passion and enthusiasm.

I'm so sorry to hear this. We were in the same situation last year and it is so stressful, life really isn't fair sometimes. I hope something positive comes out of this, you seem like such a lovely family and reading about you always cheers me up. Take care x

I am so sorry to hear your news. My hubby got made redundant about 3 years ago, although a nightmare at the time it was a blessing in disguise. We have set up our own business and are surviving well. We see him a lot more too which is great. Stay strong. What will turn out to be their lose will be your gain =) xx Sending your family lots of hugs

In 2010 I was made redundant from a job I'd had for 20+ years. It is awful. It is such a difficult time and it is very, very hard to see positives when you are going through such an emotional time. BUT as a lot of people find it was, in the end,the BEST thing that happened to me ... of course I didn't know that at the time .... So good luck to you both and I really hope there is a lovely, happy, positive outcome. x

Such a grim word. When Andy got made redundant it was like time stood still and everyone carried on regardless. Am thinking of you all and there is sure to be a silver lining and a new path somewhere x

So sorry to read of your husband's redundancy. I was made redundant three years ago this month. It was pretty devastating at the time because our home was also tied in with the job, so when I lost my job, we also lost our home and then our dog went and died the same week. We were just reeling. I was waiting for the boils to break out. What I did learn from that experience though is that everything happens for a reason. I have not been able to find a new job, but we are ok. We did find a new place to live fairly quickly and I have had the last three years to explore my artwork in a way I just didn't have time for before it all happened. Every cloud, silver lining, etc. I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your silver lining. Keeping you and your lovely family in my happy thoughts. Coming out of lurkdom to share by the way. My first time commenting although I've been reading for a long time.

Sorry to hear this, but as you say everything happens for a reason. I know how you feel, I have never had a permanent job, at this stage I am on my fourth contract job, never had a job longer than 2 years so at least every two years I have to go job hunting again and again and it is getting more difficult to find work here in Ireland. No redundancy pay for me either. I'm sure Jeff will find something even better though. Keep the head up and keep positive :)

All things nice...
